    !! The word "gamut" comes from the medieval musical scale of Guido of Arezzo (11th century), being a contraction of "gamma" and "ut" , the lowest and highest notes respectively. Thus, gamut covers the entire scale of musical notes. The first recorded use of the figurative phrase "to run the gamut" appeared in the 1830s. It quickly became popular to mean covering a complete range of emotions, colors, prices, opinions, or any other spectrum.
    “Gamut”一詞源自中世紀音樂家阿雷佐的圭多（十一世紀）所發展的音階，是“gamma”與“ut”兩個音的縮寫，分別代表最低音與最高音。因此，“gamut”涵蓋整個音階。 比喻性的片語“to run the gamut”首次記錄於一八三○年代，之後迅速流行，用來表示涵蓋情緒、顏色、價格、意見或任何其他範疇的完整範圍。
