!! American boxer Norman Selby changed his name to Kid McCoy and often won by knockout. So many boxers used his name falsely that one night in a saloon, a drunk imitation McCoy claimed he could beat the real McCoy. Kid McCoy happened to be at the bar and knocked him down with one punch. The drunk said: "You're the real McCoy." The phrase was then used for his fights.
